My Feeling in A Discourse Approach in Reading
 

 
           Hello!! My teacher, My name is Patummas  Borisut. I'm glad to study with you again^___^ I think A Discourse Approach in Reading is hard because I sometimes practiced in my reading skill before I study in this course. So, I felt serious about it because of my less knowledge about vocabularies. On the other hand, I felt better after studying with you. You had the good methods to teach my friends and me. In addition, You gave some examples and explained that clearly. So, my friends and I gained knowledge from studying with you, you always gave us do exercises in class,and practice all lessons from homework for improving our reading skill. Finally, I would like to tell the teacher that my reading skill is better because of you, although it is hard for me. "Thank you for teaching my friends and me....I wish you will be happy and healthy.

Expository Text


  
             In the morning class, I studied about " Expository text". It is written to inform the reader about a specific object. Generally speaking, expository text contains an explicit or implicit topic sentence with the main idea and the supporting ideas. I studied from text reading, The Internet and Society. It was long text and had the hard words which I didn't know. After that, I studied the next text was How to cope with Insomnia. The first one was more difficult because of answering by own idea, but the second one had choices answering. This lesson was not easy for me, but I could do it in some parts of exercises. Finally, the teacher gave us the answers key in exercise C and E. The answers key can help us to understand more for reading in "Expository Text" next time.

Problem and Solution


 
On 10 February 2014, the teacher taught students about "Problem and Solution". Problem and Solution is a pattern of organization where information is a passage is expressed as a dilemma or concerning issue (a problem) and something that was, can be, or should be done to remedy this issue (solution or attempted solution). Problem and Solution text is one of academic texts reading, it has the language of Problem-solution. There are problem markers and solution markers to help readers to understand more. That day, I did the texts which about The machine gun and Teen Pregnancies, I didn't know the words. I just translated them before I read that made me took a long times. I thought they were difficult because of contents and vocabularies. However, they could help me to improve my reading skill.

             Today, I learned the texts and did exercises about "Exemplification". for example, College Student's Pressures, fun things to dot he Great Falls, Many hazards in the home, and What is language. I thought "Many hazards in the home" was the most difficult text. However, I gained knowledge from reading. I knew the information from the texts and had more vocabularies in my brain. Furthermore, I understood what "Exemplification" from signal to the readers that additional specific details, commonly used abbreviations, and transitions in exemplification text such as for example, for instance, such as, like, in particular, in fact, and etc.

Definition and Classification


     
              On 27 January 2014, I studied about "Definition and Classification". The writers use classification to divide general concepts into a number of different types. Identifying and understanding texts that contain definition and classification will help my academic reading. I did skill practice 1, it was quite difficult and confusing. On the other hand, I could do almost skill practice 2. Moreover, I understood more when I practiced from next text, What is Anthropology?". I could answer almost questions after reading. That day, I knew about how to know what words point out in Definition and Classification. Although it was quite difficult, i could do and improve my reading skill from it.

Cause and Effect


          In the morning class, I studied about "Cause and Effect". It is used to show how the facts or concepts result due to other facts, events or concepts. Today, I studied from the texts and skill practices. I thought it made me confused about what are cause and effect. However, I could do the text, The effect of Stress. I had less wrong answers. Most of Cause and Effect text are used the academic words, so it was hard for reading and understanding. I think making diagram can help me to understand more for readers.

Comparison and Contrast

Comparison and Contrast


          
             Today, I learned about "Two of the most destructive hurricanes to hit the United States in recent years were Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005". Everyone in class did a diagram to help classify Comparison and Contrast. I knew that because of the following maskers to point out Comparison and Contrast. Then, the teacher gave our assignments to read text about "Men and Woman" and do exercises. Today, I learned a little period because the Open House was held at my university. So, the teacher let us to visit there, joining and taking photos. I and my friends visited at Asian Booth, Foreign Language Booth, Hotel Booth, and Society Booth. We joined to do activities, tried Thai dessert food, and took some photos. The activities of Open House was good. Today, I was fun and had more knowledge from the Open House and learning about Comparison and Contrast in a class.
